NS MB 'building crazy' like PM
(MB N.Sembilan gila bina bangunan macam PM) By Zefry Dahalan  - SEREMBAN: There is no difference between Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Mohd Hasan and Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, said Paroi rep Mohd Taufek Abdul Ghani.

The two were more interested in wasting funds on building projects instead of safeguarding the welfare of the people, added PAS' sole state assemblyman in Negri Sembilan.

He was referring to Najib's plan to build the 100-storey Warisan Merdeka tower and Mohd Hasan's announcement that a new state administration building would be constructed.
Speaking to FMT, Mohd Taufek said he opposed the plan to build the new state administration building in Bandar Baru Sendayan, some 20km from the existing building here. Mohd Hasan had announced the plan to build the RM230 million building during the state assembly sitting last week.
"What irked me is that the current state adminsitration building known as Wisma Negeri which houses the menteri besar's office, state secretariat and state assembly hall is in good condition "I don't see the need for another building which will be a waste of public funds. It will also be a hassle for people to liaise with state secretariat officials as the new location is far from Seremban,” said the PAS rep. Mohd Taufek felt that the RM230 million could be put to better use such as upgrading the infrastructure in rural areas and helping the hardcore poor.
133 years to settle debt
The PAS rep said that according to the state budget for 2011 that was tabled by the menteri besar, the total revenue for 2011 was RM298,184,000. “This revenue is very average for a state if compared with the Klang Municipal Council which is earning almost RM400 million per year,” he said.
"The state government's debt with the federal government so far is RM2.4 billion. According to the 2011 budget, the state government can only afford to pay the federal government RM18 million per year. This means the state needs 133 years to pay off the RM2.4 billion loan.
"This calculation does not include the RM230 million that is going to be spent for the new administration complex,” he added. Mohd Taufek urged the MB to focus on more pressing issues like poverty, improvement of public amenities, public transport and funds for religious, Chinese and Tamil schools.
"This project (new state administration building) is absolutely unnecessary at the moment especially with the current economic slump," he said. Bandar Baru Sendayan is situated in Mohd Hasan's Rantau state seat.
